Now that the 2019 season is over, we’d like to thank everyone for another amazing summer. That includes swimmers, sponsors, volunteers, musicians, food and beverage providers, Santa Barbara Lifeguards, and those helping organize behind the scenes.
On average there were 220 swimmers participating each week this year, our 11th season hosting weekly ocean-swimming races at East Beach. That’s a record!
The fantastic participation numbers and sponsor support helped Reef & Run donate $3,500 to the Junior Lifeguards program and the Nick Johnson Memorial Fund. This year’s contributions push the total given to more than $26,000 over the years.

Receiving special recognition at season’s end was Babs Vilander for her work as volunteer coordinator for two years. Dave and Liz Groom did a great job recruiting and managing the volunteer ranks this summer.
Reef & Run wouldn’t be possible without a group effort. Thanks to all for the terrific support!
At the season-ending party for sponsors and volunteers, Ulises Castaneda was selected as the lucky winner of the summer-long raffle for the Bianchi bicycle.
Among our sponsors, American Riviera Bank deserves the loudest shout-out as Reef & Run’s premier sponsor. We have never raised the price for walk-up registration in large part because of the important support from these local businesses.
Looking ahead to 2020, early-bird season passes will become available in late February. If you haven’t already, sign up HERE for the Reef & Run email list to receive a notification in the spring when passes become available.
