The 9th season of Reef & Run is officially in the books and we’re happy to report that it was a smashing success. The following includes some important recognition and some notes looking forward to our 10th anniversary year in 2018.
It was another outstanding season of Reef & Run in 2017, made possible by the incredible support from our many sponsors and a record-setting number of swimmers throughout the summer. There was an average of 215 weekly swimmers in 2017, a big leap up from an average of 185 in 2015 and 2016. It’s a testament to our swimming community to see the numbers keep rising and rising. THANK YOU!!
Among our sponsors, Elite Performance and Rehabilitation deserves the loudest shout-out as Reef & Run’s premier sponsor. We have never raised the price for registration in large part because of the important support from these local businesses.
The fantastic participation numbers and sponsor support allows Reef & Run to give back to local organizations. The proceeds donated this year bring the total to $10,200 given to the Junior Lifeguards program in the last six years and $9,000 to the Nick Johnson Memorial Fund in the last four years.
We would also like to extend our immense gratitude to Francisco and the entire East Beach Grill team for their important role in the event. Each Thursday night during the summer EBG extended their hours to host our after-party with live music, food, and our weekly raffle.
Sadly next summer Reef & Run will operate without East Beach Grill due to the renovation of the Cabrillo bathhouse. The event will remain at East Beach but will be gathering on the beach for registration and the after parties. We will provide more details about next season early in 2018. Early-bird season passes will become available in February.
